Valter Mainetti (Rome, 28 October 1947) is an Italian entrepreneur, CEO and majority shareholder of Sorgente Group.
== Biography ==

He graduated in 1973 in Political Science at the Sapienza University in Rome, with Aldo Moro as his thesis supervisor.
In the mid-seventies he began working in the family businesses, in activity since the beginning of the 1900s in Italy and the USA, operating within the industry of iron construction and real estate. His maternal grandfather, Luigi Binda, had in fact founded a company in New York in 1919 specialized in the assembly of iron structures (amongst the work carried out there are also the Chrysler Building 〔(''Valter Mainetti - immobiliaristi si diventa con la tenacia'' ), intervista di Laura Lepri per RE Real Estate, dicembre 2010, pag. 109-117〕 and the expansion of the New York Stock Exchange). Even his paternal family’s company had been involved, since 1910,〔(Sorgente Group, 2 mln mq complessiviPatrimonio immobiliare in espansione - Affaritaliani.it )〕 in the realization of works in iron, and then following World War II began building mechanical and industrial plants, such as the Sincrotrone in Frascati, the Alfa Romeo in Arese, the Steelworks in Terni and Taranto.
In 1987 he assumed the leadership of SAGEFIM Partecipazioni Spa, the parent company of the real estate business. The company's activities had gradually been oriented towards social housing.
In 1999, with the introduction in Italy of the law on real estate funds, he completely restructured the businesses both in Italy and in the US under the brand Sorgente Group, which he conceived, directing the activities towards real estate finance 〔(Sorgente Group vuole Palazzo Chigi - Panorama )〕 and the acquisition of iconic buildings.
As CEO of Sorgente Sgr, in 2001 he launched the first real estate fund, "Michelangelo",〔(Comunicato stampa - Fondi immobiliari: Michelangelo valorizza le quote a 108.818 euro )〕 intended for institutional investors, with portfolio investments in prestigious real estate such as the Chrysler Building and Flatiron Building in New York;〔(Intervista a Valter Mainetti, a.d. di Sorgente Group: «A New York abbiamo il Flat Iron e ora puntiamo all'Empire State Building» )〕 in 2009 through the Donatello Fund he acquired the Galleria Colonna in Rome, renamed Galleria Alberto Sordi;〔(Sorgente compra la Galleria Colonna a Roma - IlGiornale.it )〕 followed in 2012 by the Fine Arts Building in Los Angeles and in 2013 the Clock Tower of Santa Monica.
Today he is the majority shareholder and the head of an international group, which under the brand Sorgente Group, operates with three holding companies in the field of real estate investments and funds: in Italy with Sorgente Group SpA, of which he is CEO, in England with Sorgente Group International Holding Ltd and the USA with Sorgente Group of America Corporation. Asset under management are in excess of 6 billion US Dollars.〔(Immobiliare: Sorgente Group arriva a un patrimonio di 2 milioni di mq - ASCA.it )〕
In June 2013 he was honored in Italy with the title “Cavaliere del Lavoro” for the Real Estate and Finance Industry sector; is the first time that an entrepreneur operating within real estate finance receives the Cavalierato title.〔(Cavalieri Lavoro: Mainetti 1

)〕
One of the most significant projects which Mainetti is currently following is the urban redevelopment of the former Falck yard of Sesto San Giovanni, on the outskirts of Milan, designed by Renzo Piano – incorporating 8,000 apartments, the construction of which will employ about 3,000 workers for ten year. Sorgente Group has acquired 21.2% of the holding company which owns the area.〔(Sorgente Group e Bizzi & partners alleati su ex area Falck )〕
Valter Mainetti is currently working on the listing in Borsa Italiana of Sorgente RES – Real Estate System – a company within Sorgente Group which was established in 1939 and operates in the real estate sector. The listing will take place adopting the SIIQ regime – Società di Investimento Immobiliare Quotate: listed real estate investment companies.
